TEP REMOVAL IN SEAWATER APPLICATION

Over the past 8 months, CERAFILTEC has demonstrated the performance of its new ceramic flat sheet membrane module for seawater RO pre-treatment.

The main target of the demonstration phase was to prove the high removal of TEP (Transparent Exopolymer Particles) which are classified to be the main reason for RO bio-fouling. The benchmark test to other filtration technologies has confirmed that CERAFILTEC’s product and process solution achieves the best TEP removal results. An independent accredited laboratory has attested a maximum removal of colloidal/dissolved TEP fraction up to 88% which is equal to a total TEP removal of more than 99%.

The demonstration has been executed at a very challenging site. The seawater intake was at a harbour. High organic and micro-biological contaminations as well as frequent oil peaks have been recorded during the test phase. CERAFILTEC has achieved a very stable hydraulic performance with constant flux rate of 320 LMH over several months and short-term high flux operation up to 500 LMH.
