In December 2018 CERAFILTEC replaced an old ceramic flat sheet membrane system used in a sewage MBR plant which has been installed in 2005 by the CERAFILTEC team. The old system was still functional, a proof of the robustness of the ceramic flat sheet membrane technology. However, the focus of the replacement was to reduce the operational expenses of the plant. Over the past 6 months, CERAFILTEC has proven its module product superiority and process know-how and has achieved unmatched competitiveness with an operational cost reduction of about 50 %. The flux rate of the new module about 3.3 times higher and hence achieves a cost-competitive level to conventional sewage MBR systems using polymeric membranes. Currently, CERAFILTEC is testing several ceramic flat sheet membrane suppliers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the competitiveness of different ceramic membrane producers in sewage applications.
