Turning Oily Wastewater into Operational Gold
The challenge
Oil production generates hot, oily wastewater that changes quality by the hour. At four sites in India, polymeric membranes couldn’t cope – failing under oil spikes, degrading with each cleaning cycle and forcing frequent shutdowns and replacements.
The solution
Cerafiltec installed submerged ceramic ultrafiltration across all facilities, treating 13,000 m³ of produced water daily. The ceramic plates handle extreme conditions and fully recover after intensive cleaning – delivering consistently clear water for reinjection, steam generation, reuse and compliant discharge.
Facts and Figures
- 98 %
suspended solids removed – stable, > 1mg/l filtrate
- 96 %
oil removal maintained even during severe feed spikes
- 60 °C
High-temperature operation with no performance loss (polymer systems degrade above 40°C)
